Photography at Frank Melville Park

Frank Melville Park is a beautiful backdrop for portraits, events, and special-occasion photography, as well as a community gem for all to enjoy. The park is privately owned and can only sustain its beauty through the support of Friends like you making a much-appreciated donation.

Anyone taking posed or staged photographs for a special occasion must purchase a photo pass, whether the photographer is a paid professional, friend, or family member.

The $300 annual / $100 daily donation helps keep our grounds and buildings pristine for you to enjoy and photograph.

Weddings or Event Photography

Photography sessions are welcome; however, you must check with the Bates House manager to ensure no other weddings or parties are scheduled that day. Please contact bateshouseinfo@gmail.com to set this up. This is separate from the daily/annual photography passes at the park.

Bridge Photography

Anyone taking posed or special-occasion photos on the bridge must purchase a photo pass. Bridge use for photography is allowed:

Weekdays, Saturdays before 1 pm, and Sundays after 2 pm

Casual visitors taking candid snapshots do not need a pass. Please respect these time limits so others can enjoy the bridge.

Photography Rules

Important guidelines for special-occasion or event photographers (paid or unpaid):

  • You must carry your photo pass receipt (printed or on your phone) and show it to park staff upon request.
  • No props are allowed except a blanket for clients to sit on.
  • Alcohol and smoking are prohibited.
  • Large lighting equipment is not permitted; hand-held lights and reflectors are acceptable.
  • Do not block pathways or the stone bridge; walkers and dog owners always have the right of way.
  • Be considerate of other photographers and share space.
  • No cars or limousines are allowed in the park; parking is available on Main Street in front of the post office.
  • Commercial video shoots or film crews are not permitted.
