Frank Melville Park

Located in Setauket, New York, Frank Melville Park is a 24-acre sanctuary that beautifully intertwines history, nature, and community. Established in 1937 by Jennie MacConnell Melville and her son, Ward Melville, in memory of Frank Melville Jr., the park offers a serene escape with its rich heritage and natural beauty.

The Mill House

Built in 1665 at the south end of the pond, it moved north as the pond silted. In 1936, the Hawkins family gave it and the cottage to the Melvilles. A replica was built with a working wheel. Today, it’s the park’s headquarters.

Our Trails

Walkers can enjoy wildlife, flora, and water views in Frank Melville Park. Three laps around the post office pond equals 1.2 miles; one loop around both ponds is 0.9 miles. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after.

The Ponds

The ponds have become shallow due to runoff and sediment. A dredging project is underway to restore their 1930s depth. With NYSDEC approval close and storm damage helping prep the site, the final phase is near.

The Miller’s Cottage

The oldest structure in the park, still used as a residence. It enjoys a view of the estuary leading into Conscience Bay and reflects the park’s earliest history.
